For: Seasonal birds

Place: Exton Park, 8:30 a.m.

Note: Formerly known as Church Farm Pond and now a part of Exton Park, this pond and surrounding wetland had been a popular birding spot for years.

Google MapDirections: From the intersection of Routes 30 and 202, drive west along Route 30 and turn right on Valley Creek Blvd. At the end of the road, make a left on Swedesford Road and park in the gravel parking lot on your left where the perimeter trail starts. This is a 1.5 mile walk and will take between 1.5 and 2 hours.

Directions: Meet at NWR, 2591 Whitehall Neck Rd, Smyrna, DE 19977 at 8:30am. Do not leave the HQ; depending on birding on Whitehall Neck Rd, we may arrive to the HQ after 8:30. Please contact leader if you will meet the group at Bombay Hook.

Carpooling: Meet at Painters Crossing, PA, on the northwest corner of Routes 1 and 202. Departure time: 7:00am.

Note: Chino Farms is a privately owned tract of land near Chestertown, MD which has been restored to a native grassland. Nesting bird species include Northern Bobwhite, Grasshopper Sparrow and Dickcissel. Bob will also stop along the way home in other locations in Delaware depending on what is being seen. This is mostly a walk of about 2 miles on a flat field.
Bring lunch, this is an all day trip.

Place: Nottingham Park Office, 150 Park Road , Nottingham, PA 19362 at 8:15 a.m.

Note: Dedicated in 1963, this is the first Chester County Park. It sits atop one of the largest serpentine barrens on the East Coast. Recognized by the National Park Service in 2008 for its natural history and conservation efforts.

Note: A half day trip covering about 2.3 miles on unpaved moderately steep trails. Wear sturdy shoes. Bring sunscreen, water and snacks. Those who wish to can enjoy lunch in the park after our walk.

Directions: Take Route 1 south to Route 272. Turn left onto 272 south then turn right at first right, Herr Drive. In about 1500 feet, take the first right onto Old Baltimore Pike, then the first right onto Park Road. Headquarters will be on the left.

Note: This trip will visit locations along Route 47 from Matt’s Landing/Heislerville and South to the Cape May NWP/Woodcock Trail. This is a full day trip. There will be minimal walking involved.

Note: Enjoy beautiful vista at Elkmont Lodge in rural Sullivan County. Departure for home on Sunday. Some easy walking possible, but not required. Generally less than a mile each night and each morning.

For those who wish to arrive Thursday evening please contact Nancy Bernhardt in advance (610-565-8387) so she can make room and dinner arrangements. This group will bird Friday morning and return to the Lodge to collect those that arrive later on Friday.
